FACEBOOK

Is Facebook GOOD or BAD for STUDENT?????????

I want to start off by asking you some questions. Do you enjoy Facebook? Do you think it effects your life and your grades? If you answered yes then no, i want you to read below.....

http://www.allfacebook.com/is-facebook-good-or-bad-for-students-debate-roils-on-2011-

There was a recent study on students grades and how many times they check Facebook and how it effected their grades in school. These are the results.

  • 96 percent of college students use Facebook;
  • Grades of students who checked Facebook while studying were 20% lower than grades of those who didn’t check Facebook while studying;
  • 79 percent of students did not believe that multitasking in the way mentioned above negatively affected their grades;
  • 20 percent of students that use social media reported feeling connected to their institution;
  • 75 percent of college students reported wanting to collaborate online.

So the important question now is, Do you still feel the same way about Facebook that you did before?  Remember, numbers DON'T LIE!

Advisories issued in 24 states as dangerous heat wave spreads

http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/07/12/heat.wave/index.html

"(CNN) -- It's hot. Not "How 'bout this weather?" hot, but buckle-the-pavement, too-hot-even-for-frozen-lemonade, three-showers-a-day hot, and it's that way across a broad swath of the country."

People living in states such as Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama, are having the short in of the stick in terms of the massive heat this summer.

The heat index in Oklahoma is so intense that it buckled a turnpike, creating a two-foot ramp that sent motorcyclists flying 150 feet in the air.
This rising heat covers a large portion of the us (as seen in the picture) and the big question is "When will it cool down?"

Betty Ford

 Betty Ford (April 8, 1918- July 9, 2011)

"The role of first lady is one of the most difficult in American public life. Few women have struggled with the role as passionately and poignantly as Betty Ford, who died last week at 93."

http://www.cnn.com/2011/OPINION/07/11/frum.betty.ford/index.html?hpt=hp_c1

This article is interesting because she was a remarkable woman. She stood up for what she believed in and didn't mind sharing it. She was a very compassionate person, who aimed to help those in need.

"Betty Ford's fundamental needs, values, and orientation towards life are symbolized by the four astrological elements. Each person has their own unique balance of these four basic energies: fire (warmth, inspiration, enthusiasm), earth (practicality, realism, material interests), air (social and intellectual qualities), and water (emotional needs and feelings)."

Betty Ford is very ambitious and willing to work hard to get to the top. Betty's combination of drive and practicality has the potential to catapult her to success.

She will always be remembered
for her strong will power and her caring ways. She was a remarkable woman, and she will truly be missed.

Way Back When.....

The setting of this story took place at New Grove Baptist Church in Jefferson Georgia, Easter Sunday. My family and I enjoyed the service and afterwards there was an Easter ceremony where the little kids could come up and do inspirational dances, songs etc. I was four going on five at the time. The whole ceremony i wanted to get up there to sing one of my favorite songs of all time, so i told my mom and she told my pastor. He told my mom we will see towards the end if there is enough time. So we all enjoyed the different kids doing their songs and dances.
There wasn’t enough time at the end so i couldn’t sing my song after all. I was very dissapointed. After service we were all in the car and my mom asked me,
“Liyah, what song did you want to sing baby?”
and i replied back,
“Mom you know my song”. and she said
“No i don’t ,what song?” Then i replied back smiling
“ YALL GON MAKE ME LOSE MY MIND, UP IN HERE! UP IN HERE!
My mom’s mouth dropped and her and my dad began laughing historically. I remember her saying to my dad
“Im so glad they ran out of time, because if she would have went up there singing that, you would’ve had to go get her”
That was a very funny incident that happened when i was very young.  If you are not familiar with the song i am talking about i have attached it to this document. Enjoy, and imagine if you were at my church and you saw me at 4 years old sin
ging this.

Tupac

You may be familiar to the late Tupac Shakur or maybe not, either way i think he was a remarkable character, so this blog post is dedicated to him.

“My mama always used to tell me: 'If you can't find somethin' to live for, you best find somethin' to die for.”

Tupac's music and philosophy is rooted in many American, African-American, and World entities, including the Black
Panther Party. His mother was an active member of the Black panthers through-out his childhood.

"Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside while still alive. Never surrender."
—
Tupac Shakur

"Why am I fighting to live,
If I am just living to fight
Why am I trying to see.
When there aint nothing in sight
Why am I trying to give,
When no one gives me a try
Why am I dying to live,
If I am just living to die?"
— Tupac Shakur

Shakur was a voracious reader. He was inspired by a wide variety of writers, including William ShakespeareNiccolò MachiavelliDonald GoinesSun TzuKurt VonnegutMikhail BakuninMaya AngelouAlice Walker, and Khalil Gibran

Since his death, Tupac has become an international martyr, a symbol on the level of Bob Marleyor Che Guevara, whose life has inspired Tupacistas on the streets of Brazil, memorial murals in theBronx and Spain, and bandanna-wearing youth gangs in South Africa.

He will be missed greatly.!

Marvin Gaye - Star Spangled Banner

This song preformed by Marvin Gaye is really interesting to me. He was a very talented artist and the way he sung this song is a great a head nod. Since July Fourth is approaching i thought this song would be very appropriate. ~Enjoy (:

Aliyah's Theme Song

Wake up everybody No more sleepin' in bed No more backward thinkin' Time for thinkin' ahead

When i first got this assignment I first thought, “There is no way i can have just one song.!” because i LOVE music. Next thing i thought was, “OK, Aliyah, what song can you imagine people remembering you by? That’s when i thought “OK that's easy, John Legend - “Wake up Everybody”
The overall message of this song is to wake up our generation to see that the way we are doing things isn't helping us and that we need a change. I am someone who tries to see the bigger picture, and more importantly I am someone who  yearns for a change in society and how we handle things.
In this song John Legend speaks to the people, teachers, and doctors about his opinion about how they are,  and he gives  helpful ways to change them and encourage them as well. I also care about those around me, especially my friends and family.
This song has a very upbeat feel to it, and that’s like me when I'm around my friends and family. John Legend has always been one of my favorite artists of all time, but this particular song to me set the standard for him as well as other songs like “If your out there” “Ordinary People” and “This Time”.
I just love the overall message of the song, and how it is just that feel good music. I feel so connected to it when i listen to it. Even if I'm mad or upset, if i hear it, my mood with change. To start a song off with the lyrics that he chose is an attention capture. The original song  has been around since before i was born, so that’s how you know its good quality music. It conveys a powerful message that people need to be reminded of constantly.
All in all it’s a wonderful song that i think describes me the best. Maybe one day will I  be the one opening peoples eyes to what is best.

The only thing we have to do Is put it in our mind Surely things will work out They do it every time....”

Tennis

Tennis

My freshmen year of high school I was very scared, wondering how it would turn out, trying to find my way in such a big place. My opportunity to join tennis arrived when I e-mailed my future tennis coach at the time. From that moment we hit it off and i began coming to the tennis meetings. I tried tennis before in the past but it was something about my freshmen year and her words of encouragement that really got my heart set on wanting to play. When you think about it, any sport is technically an all year- around sport. When you’re not playing, your conditioning three times a week. So from October to the end of the school year I worked to the bone and loved every minute of it.
When we first began we didn’t have much of a team but once it was over me and my teammates grew closer and closer. We’ve gone through a lot over this past year. From the good times to the horrible times. In the end, it just made us that much stronger. It feels good to be involved in an extracurricular activity while in high school. It has a way of making you feel like you belong and are apart of something that you are proud of. Being on a team and having a friendship with each one helps going through high school that much easier I think. I ended up being the team captain for my team. It was a great accomplishment to me being that i was one of the youngest on the team.
Being on the tennis team has helped me to grow socially and physically. Its taught me teamwork and determination along with hard work. It was a wonderful experience and i cant wait to do it this upcoming year. That was truly the highlight of my high school career so far, and will continue to be.
